Introduced by Tim Rice with Josh Groban as The Russian and Idina Menzel as Florence. The story involves a romantic triangle between two players in a World Chess Championship, and the woman who manages one and falls in love with the other. Although the protagonists were not intended to represent any specific individuals, the characters' personalities are loosely based on those of Victor Korchnoi and Bobby Fischer.

Idina starred alongside fellow actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth on Broadway in Wicked, a musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman based upon the popular 1995 Gregory Maguire novel. Idina received the 2004 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. On her third to last performance of Wicked on January 8, 2005, she fell through a trap door and cracked a lower rib. The injury prevented her from performing in the January 9 show.

Based on Joseph Moncure's 1928 poem by the same name, this musical adaptation focuses on a Vaudeville dancer, Queenie (Julia Murney), looking for release from an abusive 3-year relationship with her lover, Burrs (Brian D'Arcy James) - So she decides to throw an enormous party in his honor, where she will proceed to embarrass him by flirting with another guy, but things to too far.

With more than 4,300 performances and still running, Rent is the seventh-longest-running show in Broadway history as of Jan 2008. Rent was Idina's Broadway debut, and for her performance as Maureen Johnson she received a Tony nomination as Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
