White House Arts Initiative PBS Broadcast

On Monday, July 19th, the President and First Lady will continue the White House music series celebrating the arts and demonstrating the importance of arts education by featuring Broadway music and its prestigious performers. A youth ensemble will join the ranks of major Broadway artists and new talent who will perform selections from American musicals that reflect the spirit, energy and ambition of America. Participants include Idina Menzel, Audra McDonald, Nathan Lane, Brian D'Arcy James, Chad Kimball, Tonya Pinkins, Marvin Hamlisch, Karen Olivo, and Assata Alston. President Obama will make opening remarks at this pooled press event, which will be held in the East Room and streamed live on www.whitehouse.gov starting at 7:00 p.m. ET. "A Broadway Celebration: In Performance at the White House" will be televised on public broadcasting stations nationwide on October 20, 2010 at 9:00 p.m. ET as part of the PBS music series "In Performance at the White House."

Amazing as always!!!

I just watched this on Youtube.

Here in Singapore, Theatre's much less well-loved and appreciated by the people, because our country is way more into Commerce, Technology and Science as compared to the Arts, and we're so small.

I'm an aspiring Stage Manager and am currently studying Technical Theatre over here, which is so rare we only have 8 people in the class, and sometimes it can be so difficult to find inspiration around you.

If you're reading this by any chance Idina, I just want to thank you for being my inspiration. Whenever I listen to you singing Defying Gravity and I Stand, I feel empowered to defy the odds and achieve my dreams.

Performance at the White House

steven That was a fantastic performance from Idina and Audra both. Idina was perfect and looked gorgeous in her green dress. You could tell the Obama girls were big fans, as well as the First Lady and the President. I cannot wait to see this again on PBS in the Fall.

yes, she was AMAZING. You have to admit, Audra Macdonald was pretty amazing as well.I wonder how friendly they are, considering Audra plays the ex-wife of Taye Diggs on Private Practice. Clearly, Idina received the loudest applause of all the performers, especially from the first daughters. Can't wait til it airs in Oct. so I can DVR it.

Idina was incredible.
Best performer of the night by far!!!

I also love the little dance she was doing when they took their bows at the end.

Ahh I'm going to be up in D.C. on Sunday...

I wonder if this is open to the public...probably not, but if it is was adn I somehow managed to stay up there, that would be awesommmeee. But honestly just seeing her on Saturday is going to put be in Euphoria. This tv special is going to be awesome! I'm so happy for Idina that she gets to sing in front of the President!
