Idina and Glee

ok I am a huge gleek and an even Bigger Fanzel, but I do have to say tha i wasn't all that thrilled with Glee version. I do believe that Rachel(lea) and Kurt(chris) did put a spin on it but they had to do from their characters point of view. Lea's part was very well done; can't compare to Idina's but a well done cover. When they added Chris(kurt) thats when the song started to tank. Like they wrote in the show....... Defying Gravity is meant to be sung by a FEMALE, not a male soprano! But I hope that they can get Idina to agree to allow them to cover more of her songs. I want to see what they really have and if they could do an Idina cover WELL then they are golden in my book

Appreciate Each Version for What It Is

I'm new to this board and saw the comments of those disappointed by the rendering of Defying Gravity by the Glee duet. I understand that this site's namesake sings the song more professionally--Broadway style and all--but notice what is accomplished in the Glee version: The writers managed to have two distinct characters interpret the song from their own unique vantage points--drawing on their real life experience (well, that of their fictional characters, of course). Each of the two characters--Kurt and Rachel--express a *different* meaning in the verses they sing, and they sing it in the "voice" (in the fullest sense) of their characters.

So, when one sings another's song--covering it, essentially--isn't that really one of the greatest tributes to the original power of the song? To find that it is multi-vocal--that it can express emotions beyond its original context? That's precisely what Glee did, and expertly so. Now *that's* defying gravity, no?

I love Glee and I LOVE Defying Gravity but i didn't like the duet that much and i think having it as a duet ruined it. Lea Michele was good tho. (But Idina does it the best!!!)

Glee ... Amazing...untill now?

What can I say. . . I am a musical freak! and Idina is my favorite actress and singer PERIOD! So when I heard they were doing the song on Glee ...... I almost died inside, not in a good way. I'm saying to myself this is probably the biggest number they could possibly try and remake . . so when I watched it I kept all my biased opinion out (knowing no matter what Idina was going to still be the best) ... it was emotionless . . . like even when Idina's understudy sang the song .. you felt the emotion ...but Glee, literally killed the song.

What amazed me more was the girl who sand it (blanking on her name) STARTED in Broadway (apparently) sand that emotionless! Like really this song .. if sung needs to be shown with great emotion and She especially should have known and portrayed it though the screen . . . but both singers did not ... overall this was very disappointing and I think Glee should STAY AWAY from big numbers until they can actually handle them!

I love Glee but I didn't like Kurt and Rachel singing Defying Gravity. It just didn't seem right to me. They always put their own little thing to all the songs they sing and I hated it when they changed it. Although it was only I minor change it just wasn't right in my opinion.

I Just heard the whole song and i don't think it ruins it since they sing it as a duet. but I still think Dee's single version is the bes. Thou lea did an awsome job as well as the kid that played kurt...

I love how mini Idina (Lea michele aka Rachel) will be singing a sing by Idina. lol How ironic is that? I listened to the preview on youtube and she sounds really goood. How cool would it be if Idina and Lea sung a duet together of Defying Gravity?
